ABOUT US

Hillside Huts & Cabins is run by Philip and Fiona Gregory.

Our locally built huts & have been designed with an eye for detail, comfort, and individual luxury. Built by hand from reclaimed wood, the huts’ eco-credentials run high: the walls are insulated with sheep’s wool, The wood comes from an old Cheshire Mill and the kitchen work top is an old chemistry lab table! The electricity is produced by the farm’s own wind turbine.

THE FARM

Our farm has been managed on ecological lines for many years and as a consequence, its hedgerows, woodland and wildflower meadows are noted for their bird and wildlife.

Philip spent over twenty years organising safaris to Africa and the Indian Ocean islands, and together he and Fiona have brought their interest in wildlife, the environment, and their love of the Northumbrian landscape to their Hillside Huts & Cabins venture.

They live on the farm with their two dogs, Lottie and Mali.

SUSTAINABILITY

Why we offer a more natural environmentally friendly holiday option.

  • Our Shepherd’s Huts are created with sustainable materials: the huts are made with reclaimed wood and corrugated iron, the walls are insulated with a mix of sheep’s wool and hemp. The huts have no large foundations, which means if we took the huts away they would leave no footprint.
  • Our heating facilities have a very small environmental impact. The log burner uses reclaimed compressed sawdust logs as fuel, and our wind turbine produces all the power for your lighting. (You will receive a starter pack of wood on arrival)
  • Our food hampers are locally sourced, for instance our coffee supplier is Pilgrims Coffee on Holy Island and our milk and eggs come from local producers!
  • Our goat’s milk soaps are made locally by Todburn Soaps at Todburn West Farm – a traditional working farm just 3 miles away. The goats Hyacinth, Marigold and Dandelion produce the milk and Sophie, the farmer, turns it into the most gorgeous soaps. The soap we have supplied is for you to keep and take home with you.
  • We are doing our bit to reduce single-use plastic by recycling, and you will find a bottle bank and full recycling point in the car park. Sort everything into the right bins and we will dispose of it appropriately.
  • A stay at Hillside Huts & Cabins allows you to get closer to nature and the outdoors. Both have proven beneficial effects on our health and well being and make eco-conscious choices a real pleasure.
